Ford has patented an unusual technology that will allow financial institutions to remotely disable a car or part of its functions.

The patent is titled “Systems and Methods for Seizure of a Vehicle” and describes various mechanisms that a bank can use to confiscate a car. First, minor, but significant systems like cruise control and air conditioning will be turned off.
Then the machine will start making nasty sounds, reminding you of the delay. If this does not help, the car will simply leave for the bank parking lot.

Another option is to block the car as a whole, in which the owner will not be able to drive it until he makes a payment on the loan.
The option can already be installed on many modern cars, but the legislation of most countries will still limit it to the ability to disable individual systems.
