Like other municipalities in France, the city of Poissy has just lowered the maximum authorized speed to 30 km/h throughout its urban road network. Wherever you drive in the town, you must therefore lower your speed to 30 km/h and no longer to 50 km/h. When this lowering of the speed limit was put in place at the end of last year, several signs were installed on the main traffic axes in Poissy to warn motorists. Panels which were then removed, with the only remaining indication of the new speed limit of 30 km/h on all roads being a small “zone 30” panel installed under the one announcing the entry into Poissy. And there is precisely a fixed speed camera installed on one of the main roads, when you arrive in the city from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which therefore now flashes at 30 km / h.
According to specialists from Radars-Auto, this radar has been a real carnage since it was reprogrammed to 30 km/h instead of 50 km/h. According to testimonies collected by the site, some motorists are caught passing in front of the speed camera, believing that the speed is limited to 50 km/h and not 30 km/h: it turns out that a sign “50 km /h” is present upstream to announce an end of limitation to 70 km/h. And despite the presence of the small “Zone 30” sign at the entrance to the city after this 50 sign, it would be quite easy to be fooled by not being attentive enough to the signs. Especially since the configuration of the road at the location of the radar, a large two-way road outside built-up areas with zebras in the middle, is not at all likely to warn of such a low speed limit.
New panels have been installed
Still according to Radar-Auto, the municipality of Poissy has nevertheless installed new fluorescent panels marked “POISSY zone 30 – I drive at 30 km/h throughout the city” in order to better inform motorists of the measure. Radar-Auto specifies that currently in France, there would be only six fixed speed cameras programmed at 30 km/h in total: three in Paris, two in Choisy-le-Roi and that of Poissy which we are talking about in this article.
