The arrival of the Mustang Mach-e snatched cries of horror from fans of Ford’s pony car. Despite this outcry, commercial success is there, which confirms the leaders of the manufacturer in their choice. However, the latter have obviously given the green light a little too quickly to the marketing of this iconoclast. Indeed, after the glass roof and software controlling the driving aids, it is the traction battery that is the problem.
More specifically, it is two pieces of software, one driving the secondary on-board diagnostic control module and the other the battery energy control module, which must be modified. Indeed, Ford has found that repeated use of fast charging and the hands-free tailgate can cause the battery contactors to overheat. The key is a significant drop in power delivery and unpleasant surprises, especially when overtaking.
The software versions that need to be updated were installed on Mustang Mach-e assembled between May 27, 2020 and May 24, 2022. In the United States, where NHTSA forced the brand to organize this recall, there are 48 924 vehicles that must go back to the workshop. For the moment, no recall of this kind has been organized in Europe, but one can imagine that the cars circulating on our continent will receive these new software as they pass through a dealership. If you are the owner of one of the cars manufactured during this period, nothing prevents you from asking the latter to install this update quickly and free of charge.
