The differential is an unknown mechanical element which is nevertheless present on all cars. It allows the wheels on the same axle to turn at different speeds, a sine qua non condition for being able to take a bend, for example. On some models with all-wheel drive, it is also self-locking, which makes it possible, in off-road use, to maintain traction even if one of the wheels has little or no grip.
It is the rear differential that is the problem today on the Ford Ranger. When the bed of the vehicle is heavily loaded, it may break or jam. If this happens when the car is in traffic, loss of control and then an accident are likely.
The blue oval brand therefore recalls all Rangers assembled between September 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019 in order to proceed with the inspection and replacement of the rear differential. Ford France has not communicated the precise number of vehicles affected by this operation, but it could reach 3,500.
Each owner of the accused Rangers, which have been approved under CE types e11*2007/46*0154*17 and e5*2007/46*0080* followed by 00, 01 or 02, is currently being contacted by the manufacturer. He mentioned the 22S30 recall operation and insisted on the need to make an appointment with his dealer without delay.
