It will soon be necessary to ease off in the capital of the Gauls. Grégory Doucet, ecological mayor of Lyon since 2020, announced that the speed limit to 30 km / h will be implemented in his city from spring 2022. An announcement that is not surprising, since the measure had been mentioned in its program.
At the microphone of France 3 Rhône-Alpes, he explained that this decision aims to “appease the city” with the particular aim of “reducing accidents”. He said on this subject that a 40% drop in road accidents has been observed “in the major European capitals, in Brussels, in Spain or in the Netherlands, which have already passed through town 30”.
Lowering the speed limit should also reduce noise in the city. The reduction of the speed limit from 50 to 30 km / h will affect almost all the streets of Lyon. Only a few large rolling axes will remain limited to 50 km / h.
Lyon will join a now long list of large cities that have adopted 30 km / h, including Grenoble, Lille, Nantes, Montpellier and of course Paris, since the start of the school year. Lyon drivers will also be faced with a tightening of traffic restrictions, with the desire to ban all diesel by 2026.
