What is the ultimate weapon to take down 0 to 400 yards? We will give you some clues. It’s not the Dodge Challenger Demon or the Rimac Nevera, and it’s more powerful than four Bugatti Chiron combined. The answer ? This is this superb dragster based on a Chevrolet Corvette C4 from 1984.
On the program, no V8 engine stuffed with turbos or batteries that power several electric motors, but a jet engine borrowed from an airplane. “Simply”.
A Corvette that breaks all records
The presentation of this incredible Corvette was posted on the website of Classic Auto Mall, a dealership in Morgantown, PA, USA. This is not a real Chevrolet Corvette C4, but a chassis and bodywork heavily inspired by the 1980s sports car, assembled by Meng Race Specialties.
If, from the front and from the side, this Corvette looks like a “classic” dragster, the rear is provided with a somewhat specific element. We find a huge Westinghouse J34 / 34-A engine derived from the Vought V3D Skynight and McDonnell F2H Banshee jets, two American defense planes that were in service during the Cold War.
This gigantic engine is capable of developing more than 7000 horses and, thanks to the weight of the car, announced at only 1088 kilos, this dragster can reach 400 km / h in less than 400 meters. By way of comparison, the new electric hypercar from Rimac, the Nevera, reaches “only” 270 km / h after 400 meters.
Looking for a new pilot
This dragster has competed in various championships and was custom built for a Texan owner. Between design and continuous improvements over time, the car cost over $ 150,000, or about 127 000 euros.
Today, this dragster is available for sale for $ 39,500 (approx. 33 000 euros) almost as much as a new and well-equipped Nissan Qashqai! It remains to be seen whether this particular vehicle in more than one way will appeal to a buyer who loves thrills.
