This Monday, June 28, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, went with several ministers to Douai, in the North, to the Renault industrial site which will soon be supported by a battery factory for electric vehicles from the Chinese manufacturer Envision. The leaders of the diamond brand had reserved a little surprise for the Head of State, in this case a Renault 4 converted to electricity by retrofit. The R4, or 4L, is being honored by Renault throughout this year for its 60th anniversary, and will parade in July at the Cannes Film Festival.

The car is badged “R4 – 1”, a mention which can be read in English “air four one” or even “air fourth one” and which is therefore a humorous nod to the United States presidential plane named Air Force One. The car was presented to Emmanuel Macron by Luca de Meo, general manager of Renault, who gave him a tour of the owner.
