The South Korean brand has unveiled the 2022 G70 Shooting Brake station wagon. The novelty will compete with European premium station wagons such as the Mercedes C-Class Estate, BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant.
Last week, Genesis announced its long-awaited entry into the European market with the G80 (sedan), GV80 (crossover) models. It is now revealed that they are being joined by the smaller G70 and GV70 models, but there is another luxury vehicle heading for the Old Continent. This is the G70 Shooting Brake, a stylish station wagon that will compete with more established players in this segment such as the Mercedes C-Class Estate, BMW 3 Series Touring and Audi A4 Avant.
Interestingly, the station wagon is the same size as the sedan it is based on.
The long-roofed G70 is 4,685mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,400mm high with an identical 2,835mm wheelbase. While the footprint remained untouched, the redesigned bodywork allowed engineers to increase payload capacity by 40 percent over the Genesis G70 sedan. For practicality, Genesis installs a 40:20:40 split folding rear sofa.
The G70 Shooting Brake is based on the refreshed G70 sedan unveiled in South Korea back in September 2020. The Two Lines corporate lighting scheme was also carried over to the estate. It is worth noting that the split taillights go over to the tailgate.
Specifications for the station wagon will be announced at a later date, although we expect everything to be borrowed from its sedan counterpart. The car featured here has 2.0T and AWD badges and it will be interesting to see if the Shooting Brake is also available with RWD and a larger 3.3-liter V6.
