Will the new Golf R compete with the strongest rivals in the face of hot hatchbacks from Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW? This is exactly the question that the guys from the carwow YouTube channel wanted to answer.
The 2021 Golf R high-performance hatchback boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine mated to either a manual or automatic transmission mated to an all-wheel drive system. The power of this motor is 320 horsepower (420 Nm). The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just four seconds.
To challenge the Golf R, the carwow team from the YouTube channel of the same name chose the “charged” Mercedes-Benz A35 AMG hatchback as a rival.
Its 2.0-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine produces slightly less power at 302 horsepower (400 Newton meters).
The BMW M135i is a stark contrast to the familiar rear-wheel drive cars for which BMW is famous – the car has the same platform on which the city cars of the British MINI brand are built. The all-wheel drive M135i also features a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder powerplant that produces 302 horsepower (450 Nm). All this power is transmitted through an 8-speed automatic transmission that is mated to an all-wheel drive system.
Another contender to win is the Audi S3, which is very similar to the Golf R Mk8. It is equipped with the same engine that is located under the hood of the latter. However, for the car from Audi, the engine power was underestimated to 310 horsepower. The transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Audi S3 uses Quattro all-wheel drive.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote about how the 1000-horsepower BMW M5 competed with rally cars. A video has appeared on the web that captures the race between three participants in the UK rally race and a 1000-horsepower version of the Bavarian BMW M5 sedan.
